SGS People: Spotlight on Chris Linn

Chris Linn is a Project Manager at Smarter Grid Solutions (SGS). During his time at SGS, he has delivered many innovative research and deployment projects. Prior to joining SGS Chris was Director of Operations for DynaSolar EPCM.

Tell us a little about your background?

I have over 10 years of experience in distributed energy resource (DER) construction management as a PM. Mostly with solar, but also worked on (3) 150 MW wind farms focused on interconnection, controls, and market participation in ERCOT. During the process of managing the controls portion of the wind projects I became very interested in controls, which led me to Smarter Grid Solutions who specialize in DER controls.

What motivates you about your work with SGS?

I love the technology, the people at SGS, and working with our customers. Being able to deliver technology that facilitates energy resiliency and improves capacity through non-wires alternatives is very motivating to me.

What do you like best about working at SGS?

The people I work with.

What has been your biggest achievement so far at SGS?

Being able to lead two microgrid projects in California.

What are your hopes for the clean energy sector in the coming months and years?

That the powers that be at the governmental and utility levels as well as the ratepayers come to an understanding that DERMS can enable renewable adoption via non-wires alternatives. This has significant environmental and ratepayer cost benefits that are not yet understood well in the marketplace in my opinion.

Looking forward, what impact are you hoping SGS will have?

With Mitsubishi’s recent acquisition of SGS, I am looking forward to seeing more and more DERMS sales in the US to enable the energy transition.
