Smarter Grid Solutions (SGS) was founded in 2008 and has since grown into a leading provider of Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) software for major utilities across the world. Yesterday it kicked off its 10th anniversary year with a visit from the Scottish Government’s Derek Mackay to its head office in Glasgow.
During his visit Mr Mackay spoke to senior figures within the organisation including Chief Executive, Jim Kent, where he highlighted the importance of SGS’ vital role in building of the smart energy infrastructure in Scotland and globally.
Mr MacKay also spoke to various members of the organisation to understand the complexity and scale of SGS operations in managing over 300 MW of renewable energy in the UK and Europe, its growth in North America and new partnerships in Australia, South Africa, the Middle East and India.
Talking about the visit Jim Kent, Chief Executive of Smarter Grid Solutions, said “It was a pleasure and privilege to be joined by Mr Mackay yesterday, to introduce him to our company and the work we are doing to advance the adoption of renewable energy and other low carbon resources onto the grid”.

I have been impressed with its ambition and plans to grow through continued investment in its products, underlying technology and people. Smarter Grid Solutions is innovating and developing products to address customer problems and opportunities so I was pleased to see the Scottish Investment Bank and SMART:SCOTLAND grant have been made available to help support the company to capitalise on the real opportunity for growth.”
Smarter Grid Solutions has planned major events across the coming months in celebration of its 10th anniversary, including events in its Glasgow and New York offices, and exhibiting at the Low Carbon Networks & Innovation Conference in Telford, UK in October and the DistribuTECH conference and exhibition taking place in New Orleans, US in February 2019.
